It’s no secret that success doesn’t just happen. It takes hard work and perseverance along with determination and an unwavering belief of your end goal. We all know that a journey is never made up of just one straight road. There are factors along the way that dictate how you reach your destination. No car is going to get you to where you want to go without petrol! All aspects of your business and its success is the exact same.
Yesterday I sat down with our Digital Marketing Manager to discuss our strategy for the coming months. Over the past 6 months we have been working hard on our digital marketing, because like it or not, digital marketing is one of the keys to growing your business. Not only is it growing fast, it is constantly changing. The meeting was a review of our current and future strategy and the actions/processes that are going to help us achieve our goal.
What was amazing to see was multiple ‘seeds’ all laid out in a clear and concise overview mind map with what we hope is the flourishing ‘flower bed’ right in the centre. It was only when we sat down reviewing it did it really hit home how important all of the single seeds are. From LinkedIN, Twitter, Instagram, newsletter and website updating to future eMagazine’s and video blogs and tutorials, each and every one of them feed into our goal – Strong brand + Traffic to our website = Increased Sales. A simple equation that not only takes hard work and a clear direction, but one that involves planting a lot of small seeds.
So is it working? Are the seeds growing? The simple answer is yes. They are growing but they take constant nurturing.
Whilst sometimes digital marketing can be unquantifiable we are doing our best to analyse the growth of the different seeds to ensure we get the best possible result. But it is also very important to identify the seeds that are not growing and the ones that will simply never grow. Sometimes this is because they are not suited to ‘flower bed’ but this is OK. In fact it is vital. If you don’t find out what works and what doesn’t work you are never going to fully succeed.
For example, very early on we recognised that Facebook was not a good platform for our company. However we keep it there for brand awareness and possible traffic to our site. We keep it updated and we plan to experiment in the coming weeks with some sponsored ads to see if we could be nurturing this seed better. But we do not concentrate our focus on it.
Instead we focus on other platforms and ideas that generate to results we want.
The seeds have led to an increase in traffic to our site, increased inquiries and as a result sales have increased. Our brand is also going from strength to strength online. Of course there is always more that we could be doing but the main thing is that we are doing and that puts us ahead of others who are still thinking and not doing. So plant the seeds, nurture them and help your business grow.
